New Board, New Year, New Action

Welcome to (almost) 2025! We may have a few days to go in 2024 but that isn’t slowing our chapter down!

We begin with welcoming our new board members, David Issa and Daveed Benjamin. Both David and Daveed are first time board members in our chapter. David has additionally accepted the roles of vice-chair and secretary. David’s background includes a range of activities from management to emcee of our recent event, Global Encryption Day SF! Daveed brings a unique perspective on how our perception of events can be molded into positive outcomes. Daveed has a deep engineering background with experience in many recent technology developments. We are very excited to have them on our board!

This past election was for half the board positions. Continuing this year include Ronald Petty – Chair, Gustavo Ortega – Treasurer, Caitlin Doyle – Communications, April Lat, Fatema Kothari, and Zach Tyler. Thank you all for your continued commitment.

In addition, board members Jesus Guerrero – Secretary and Joel Valencia – Partnerships have rolled off the board. We look forward to leveraging their expertise as they resume continued membership!

2024 provided our chapter opportunities to get back in-person to help each other and network! Key events included the i50 event, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Internet (ala TCP/IP); Global Encryption Day SF provided an opportunity for our chapter to partner with the SF Bay ACM to further the Global Encryption Coalition mission to protection to expand and protect usage of encryption in our data and communications.

2025 is starting with a bang. Our next in person event is AI Day SF. We look forward to learning about the impact of AI from quarters beyond pure technology. This event while provide engineers and management opportunities to see AI’s impact from the other’s perspective.

We thank our members, sponsors, and partners for making all of this happen. Enjoy some rest over the holidays and lets make 2025 great for the Internet!
